How the technology works
The ClampOn DSP Particle Monitor sensor detects the ultrasound generated by particles hitting the pipe wall.
The ultrasonic signal is filtered to remove the low frequencies containing most of the unwanted mechanical noise, and also the higher frequencies.
Application of Sand detection and monitoring
- Identify well or source of sand production in production system and recommend safe production rate to prevent sand cut on wellhead choke and erosion in production tubing.
- Monitor critical pipe section on production system where sand might be carried over for operator to take appropriate action to prevent equipment fouling, valve leak due to sand cut or erosion, erosion in in piping system, and instrument fouling.
Problem detection
Sand production from wells can create problems in production train such as internal erosion in process piping and valves that could lead to undesired incident; e.g. loss of containment, valve leak, accumulation of sand in process equipment and pipeline, malfunction of process instrument and control, loss of production opportunity due to long unplanned shutdown or even leading to fire and explosion.
